Public Art projects by Jeremy Welsh

Since 2001, several public art projects and commissions have been realised, including permanent works for public buildings, and temporary interventions in urban space.

SPLASH! Pirbadet, Trondheim (public swimming pool) Site specific video installation produced in 2000/2001. Synchronised dvd playback on two plasma screens, installed in the reception / ticketing area of the swimming pool complex.

The Low Down: commission for Halden Jail, Norway, 2009. Commissioned by KORO (Public Art Norway), consultants Marte Aas and Hilde Hauan Johnsen. The work was made for both sides of a long wall and a sliding gate, beside the main reception area, dividing the public and staff area from the closed interior. Automotive spray lacquer, powder lacquer and silk screen on galvanised steel. Work for the opposite side of the wall was by Jon Arne Mogstad. The two works were designed together.

Brukerveiledning (user guide) for The Norwegian Post Office, Eastern Norway distribution center, 2010. A series of spray lacquered aluminium light boxes with white neon and silk screen prints on clear plexiglass. Also a collaboration with Jon Arne Mogstad, who produced a series of abstract wall sculptures in spray lacquered aluminium. The individual pieces were loosely based around the relationship between postage stamps and postmarks.

VP4SO (Video Paintings for St. Olavs) commissioned work for a large digital display screen at St. Olavs Hospital, Trondheim 2013. The screen was part of the information service for the research centre of the hospital and the artwork was designed to playback at any time the interactive function of the display was in standby mode. The imagery combined material shot in the vicinity of the building itself with abstracted images from the natural environment.  Part of the art programme Visual Vitamins.

Ghost Stories; Håkonshallen, Bergen, night time video projections on the facade of a historic monument, produced by BEK (Bergen Center for Electronic Art) December 2011.
